I was literally about the comment this! The bass’ are amazing. You can really hear them well at 3:00

Yeah the tenor's get the glory but the bass boys get the girls. Unless a tenor goes crazy high nobody reacts. Yet it's increasingly rare to hear people sing bass, so when you do the reactions are "OH I Love that bass!"

Finding enough basses and good quality ones is tough enough so major props indeed!

That’s called undertones 😊 I was a bass in my high school concert choir and we gave ourselves chills a few times!

Just wanna acknowledge how challenging it is for a choir to enunciate in a setting like that and the fact that all of the words are articulated so clearly is a testament to their discipline, skill, and hard work as a group



This song is usually sung with each verse getting faster and faster. I was wondering what they would do with all that reverb! The choice was made to keep it slow, which, to me, was brilliant, really let the notes ring out and blend like they should. I loved it!
Starting at 2:40 the bass comes in. Wow. Fact, the base line is accentuated like I rarely hear. Avi Kaplan comes close to this but this is a choir! My hypothesis is that the high metal roof accentuates the longer wavelengths produced by the lower notes thus gives great acoustic power to a part we rarely hear with such verve. Basso Profundo!

I think the crazy part is they're not even singing extremely low (D#2 I think was their lowest), they're just singing well enough that it seems deeper than it actually is.

As a bass I know the pain of singing 3 notes an entire song, but damn he does it well.

 @RinZ3993  Avi has natural lows that the vast majority of people can't hit, and he's good at making use of his natural resonance to get the most out of it; at the same time, on recordings, there's a bit done to boost his voice and equalize everything. Nothing wrong with it, it's a fairly common practice; guys like the eastern European oktavists who can sustain those crazy low notes Avi, Tim, Geoff, and others can hit and still be heard over an entire choir with everybody singing at full blast are rare, and generally they are absolutely huge people physically as well. Meanwhile, a good space helps out everyone, but especially the basses, because it gives some extra room for the notes we're putting out to be able to resonate and amplify; if this were just out in the field, we'd get lost while the other parts would still stand out pretty clearly.

I was 14 when it came out! Now I’m 71 and it sure brings back memories!! I grew up listening to music like this. I'm old. Good for me. That means I grew up in great times. My dad gave me a "Silvertone" (Sears) transistor radio and this was one of the first songs I heard, laying on the sand in So. Cal., circa 64'. What a time to be young. Next would come The Beach Boys and then The Beatles and everything would change!

Montreux 1972, I was there, Frank Zappa concert, it was scary being enclosed in the concert hall and seeing and smelling the smoke. Montreux is still a good place to go for concerts, visit the vineyards, Château de Chillon, or take the ferry across the water to France. David Bowie and Freddy Mercury lived nearby.

This song reminds me of my life as a ranch manager. Most days I wish I was back to working livestock and driving big ol feed trucks 14-18 hours a day. It is a lifestyle that only a few love. I'm one of them and it was ripped away from me by greedy bastards and an administration that hates the people that feed the country.

And let me tell y’all it’s a lonely life, I’ll travel in my Chevy pickup all the way to West/South Texas depending where they send me. New Mexico, Louisiana. I love it though.
